Brokenwood Pinot Noir 2013 Beechworth, VIC

Tasting Notes

Retention of fruit character is always important. Processing involved cold soak of the must for a few days and included approximately 10% whole bunches in the ferment. No post ferment maceration was under taken. Oak maturation was predominantly in used French oak barriques and bottled at the 12-month mark.

Winemakers Comments

Brokenwood has been producing Pinot Noir from the Indigo Vineyard since 2002. As there are three clones planted over different sites, there is opportunity to process as a number of different parcels, hence we have the Varietal wines as well as Single Vineyard wines. A very cold and wet winter of 2015 meant a late budburst, however this set the vines up for a great spring. A warm summer did mean irrigation was necessary and picking was very condensed. The last grapes off were nearly a month ahead of previous years, however this worked in our favour as there was a heat wave in early March. Overall, an excellent vintage.

Food

Duck and Pinot is a classic combination, also try with quail and steak tartare.

Drink

Drinking well now however will improve with further bottle age.
